Welcome Mary Flick, a Family Nurse Practitioner, to our staff. For some time we've been searching for a practitioner to specialize in women's health.
Consistently, many of you have expressed the desire to have a female provider for your annual exam. Now you have that choice. Mary Flick, RN, CCRN, MS, FNP-C (see below Mary's explanation of the initials) is joining our staff to meet that need. Mary is familiar both with conventional and alternative treatments in women's health care. She has 18 years of health care experience. She is well qualified to address other health conditions, from chronic problems such as hypertension and asthma, to short- term troubles like lacerations and infections.
Mary's experience as a nurse practitioner is well suited for our office. She has worked in a variety of settings including emergency departments, emergency air evacuation services and routine" adult medical care. She is a good diagnostician having seen and treated everything from ear infections and sprained ankles, to heart attacks and strokes. Mary is actively involved with ongoing continuing education. Together we are working to help provide you with expanded care options as Mary continues to develop her knowledge of alternative choices in health care.
To start, Mary will be in the office on Fridays to provide well woman exams and general medical services. If you're due for your annual health screening and pap smear, please consider scheduling an appointment with us.
A Note from Mary
Section titled “A Note from Mary”Hello! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mary Flick, and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner, joining Dr. Rienstra's practice at the Monroe Street Medical Clinic.
I am very excited about this new opportunity. I recently moved to Port Townsend from Arizona, where I received my nurse practitioner training and spent several years in practice. After years of experience in an urban setting, I chose Port Townsend with the desire to begin a practice in a smaller community - a place where I could establish a relationship with patients, treat them as individuals, and make medical decisions based on their personal needs, rather than on insurance or managed care.
I began my health care career working as a nursing assistant while in high school over twenty years ago. After graduation from nursing school in Colorado in 1983, I practiced as a registered nurse in critical care and emergency settings, in Colorado, California, South Carolina, Florida and Arizona. I attended graduate school at the University of Arizona in Tucson and graduated with a masters degree and nurse practitioner certification in 1996. Since becoming a nurse practitioner, I have worked both independently and in collaborative practice with other providers. As with my RN experience, my nurse practitioner settings have been quite diverse including emergency departments, long term care facilities and primary care offices.
I am committed to ongoing education and learning that are essential for quality care in today's fast changing health environment. I have demonstrated this commitment through continuing education classes, journal subscription and maintenance of certifications that meet and surpass requirement for employment.
I look forward to becoming part of the team at the Monroe Street Medical Clinic!
Sincerely,
Mary Flick, RN, CCRN, MS, FNP-C
