Note: This information was current when written. Please check with your own healthcare provider before taking action.

Jefferson Healthcare lists those who are eligible for vaccination. If you are eligible, you may sign up. If you are not yet eligible, they have answers to your questions about the vaccination process.

The Washington State Department of Health Data Dashboard shows Jefferson County cases over the period of this pandemic.

Bill Mann, a friend of mine who was caught by polio in the 1950s, recommended Philip Roth’s Nemesis as insight into those frightful days. Truly a memorable story, but if you are pressed for time try this shorter snapshot of that epidemic. It adds needed perspective to this one.

An old friend sent this question in response to our last newsletter detailing the specifics of this new vaccine:/

Hi Douwe,
I'll read the article more thoroughly, but one question comes up from friends who are concerned that the vaccine is a new technology, and they want to wait until it's been on the market longer. Obviously, you feel comfortable with the new technology or you wouldn't have had your vaccine, but what do you say to those who are concerned about it being new? I was on the fence and considered waiting but have since registered on the website.

My response:

Were we not in the throes of this pandemic, I’d want to wait, too.

While I enjoy receiving your email responses and being reassured that these newsletters meet your needs, I continue to hold hope that some of you—even just one person to start—would enter feedback in the online form at the bottom of the page. Maybe we could start a "Dear Doctor" section, somehow.
