Our Goal

We humans have always lived together under the umbrella of shared stories. We still do.

For 50 years I practiced general medicine, listening to people's stories about their health, their lives, their worries. This website shares those medical stories and the new ones I continue to write.

But it's also about something bigger. I'm thinking about our shaky economic system, the tents of the unsheltered, our out-of-control politics, the fires, droughts, storms and floods, and our tens of millions of people losing sleep while worrying about rent, food or healthcare—all of these are manifestations of too many wrong stories.

The singer Willie Nelson can pack a venue with rednecks and hippies, getting along fine. When asked what it would take to get those two groups together everywhere, Willie said, "They aren't that far apart."

Having been raised in a Texas military family whose political views cover the spectrum, and having lived in many regions of the USA, I agree with him. The old ways aren't working. The old world is dying. Let's build something better.
