Texas Stories

Aunt Jenny tells the story of a prisoner named Jethro who made furniture. When it came time for his release, he was in the middle of a contract job and refused to leave the prison. The warden resisted and Jethro asked him to call Governor Shivers. The warden did, and was told by Shivers to let the man stay as long as he wanted and then call when the prisoner was ready to go.

There was a rodeo in Huntsville for many years until it was limited by the state.

When she had her 95th birthday, there was a large cake for the fifty or so attendees. They barely touched it. So there in little old Livingston, Texas, her daughter Debbi cut it in two, and took one half to the fire department and the other to the police station. They thanked her.

Let's not feel too superior to those red states.
