When in practice, I sent people with unexplained intestinal problems for colonoscopy. Often, it didn't reveal the problem. When the patient returned for a check up after that, frequently they would say "you know what, just getting that colonoscopy made my symptoms go away."
As the years went by, I learned that frequently people have constipation and don't realize it. They poop every day, and it doesn't seem particularly difficult, so they think everything is moving through smoothly. They don't realize that abdominal pain, esophageal reflux or heartburn can result from slow movement in the colon. Often, once I started trying it, a good intestinal clean out could make long-standing mysterious abdominal symptoms go away. It didn't always work, of course, but by golly the price was right.
AyurVedic medicine from India recognizes this well. So did the old-time docs, before modern medicine came along. Unfortunately they went overboard with it, and their favorite remedy, calomel, contained a form of mercury.
If you do have abdominal pain, please check with your doc to be sure a laxative isn't going to make some undiagnosed bowel condition worse.
